In south-eastern Sicily, only a few kilometers from Noto, the capital of the Baroque style in the island, and nearby the other UNESCO-listed centers in the World Heritage (Ragusa, Modica, Scicli, Palazzolo Acreide, Syracuse, Pantalica) there is Ispica.
On the top of a hill, 7 km away from the African sea, Ispica saves as it was a casket, very important architecture representing Baroque and Liberty style in Sicily.
Below the town, in a scenography valley, called Cava Ispica, there are caverns and grottos, used as burials, prayer places which are evidence of a very ancient past. Sort of canyon, still wild and fascinating, known by only a few people, represents one of the most extraordinary places on the island.
The coast with its sand dunes, woods, isolated beaches of a gold fine sand cliffs, stacks and its stretches of marshes, is, in the summer, one of the most visited places of the province of Ragusa.
The beaches of S. Maria del Focallo and Ciriga, from 2011, have obtained the prestigious recognition of the “Blue Flag of the Beaches”, which indicates the excellent state of health of the sea waters and the overall environmental quality of the territory of Ispica.
Agriculture has always been the flywheel of the city’s economy and boasts, among other things, products of excellence such as the new Carrot of Ispica, which has become IGP since 2011, and sesame, grown in the fertile low-lying at the foot of the town, since the Arab era.
If you choose Ispica to spend your holiday you can enjoy the beauty of its landscapes, nature, monuments, beaches and, above all, you can appreciate the warm hospitality of people, the taste of its food, the religious feasts during the Holy Week and its crowded folkloristic processions. Moreover, there are many events all the year that animate the seasons and make life pleasant.
Cinema and television have often shown it palaces, streets being set of several movies such as Germi’s “Divorce all’Italiana”, De Sica’s “Il Viaggio” and Taviani brothers’ “Kaos”, or the famous television serial “Commissario Montalbano”.
Come and make your holidays unforgettable.
We are waiting for you.
